Enoch Pratt letters, 1852-1864 [microform].

Enoch Pratt was a Baltimore businessman who made his fortune in banking, insurance, and transportation and dedicated it to civic improvement. He endowed a free public library in Baltimore (Enoch Pratt Free Library), the Sheppard Asylum (Sheppard-Pratt Hospital), and the House of Reformation and Instruction for Colored Children. These letters are to John Knight in Natchez, New Orleans, New York City, Savannah, Magnolia, Fl., Frederick and Hagerstown, Md., Rome, London, and Paris. The letters discuss investments and business opportunities and the affects of the Civil War. Pratt apparently managed investments for Knight.
